Do I pay a deposit?
Yes - all my orders are secured with a 50% non refundable deposit. Until a deposit is paid, the booking will not be made. The remaining 50% is due two weeks before the date for wedding cakes, or a week before for celebration cakes. This can be paid by cash, card or bank transfer.
How far in advance should I order?
For wedding cakes, I recommend booking anywhere between 6 months to a year in advance. For celebration cakes I recommend at least 3-4 weeks in advance, though it does depend on my current bookings as to whether I will be able to fit the order in, especially in my busy summer months. I will always try to fit orders in wherever possible.
Is delivery included in the price?
For wedding orders, delivery and set up is included in the price. For all other orders delivery is not included, as I encourage customers to collect from my address in Binstead. I may be able to deliver if arranged upon booking, though a fee would be charged based on the location.
What if I need to cancel my order?
Unfortunately, as outlined in my T+C's, I cannot refund deposits once paid if an order is cancelled. The deposit secures the date for you so no one else can book in, so I may miss out on other orders and not be able to fill the space if a cancellation is made.
How do I store my cake?
Naked/semi-naked/buttercream/drip cakes can all be stored in the fridge in the box provided, but fondant covered cakes should be kept in a cool dry place, as moisture from the fridge will cause the fondant to become sticky. Brownies and blondies will become fudgy in the fridge and gooier at room temp. Strawberries should be stored in the fridge.
How do I transport my cake?
If transporting by car, I recommend that your cake goes in the boot on a flat surface, not on the back seat as this will be tilted, and definitely not on laps! I do not recommend long journeys especially in hot weather (and please don't leave your cake in a hot car!) Take corners slowly and no sudden stops. I cannot take responsibility for what happens if you ignore this, or if any damage comes to your cake whilst transporting.
Do you cater for allergies?
While I am more than happy to cater for dietary requirements/preferences, I cannot guarantee that all my bakes will be completely allergen free as I work in a kitchen that handles gluten, dairy, egg, soya and nut products. Please keep this in mind when ordering.
Terms & Conditions
All orders are secured with a 50% non refundable deposit (unless stated otherwise), at which point your booking will be fully secured and a receipt sent. Without a deposit, your cake will not be booked in. The remaining balance is due two weeks prior to delivery/collection date for wedding cakes, and one week for celebration cakes and other orders, unless specified otherwise. Please read your receipt carefully to confirm all details are correct and inform us of any problems as soon as possible. Failure to pay the remaining balance may result in the cancellation of your cake and your date being made available to someone else as well as retaining the 50% deposit. Cancellations before final payment will result in the 50% deposit being retained. Changes to the design of the cake may incur an additional charge and must be finalised at least 2 weeks before delivery/collection date. Changes to the date may result in cancellation of the cake and retaining of the 50% deposit. If entire balance has been paid prior to cancellation, 50% deposit will be kept but the remaining may be returned if cancelled more than 6 weeks before the delivery/collection date for wedding cakes, or 2 weeks for celebration cakes - if cancelled within the 6 week/2 week window before the delivery/collection date, the whole balance will be kept. Deposits cannot be transferred to another cake in the case of cancellation. In the unlikely event that Gladys May Cakery is unable to fulfil your order for reasons other than those stated above, the deposit will be fully refunded. If flowers are to be added to a wedding order, they must be delivered the day before the wedding or arranged to be left in a safe place for me at the venue. Toppers must be delivered the week before the wedding date, or left in a safe place at the venue if delivering. Portion sizes are based on approx. 1”x1”x4.5” pieces minimum, suitable post dessert for wedding cakes unless otherwise specified. Prior to collection of celebration orders, I will always aim to show customers the finished product to confirm the quality of the cake/s via photograph. I do not take responsibility for any damage that comes to the product after collection. This includes during summer due to hot weather conditions, eg. if it is not possible for the cake to be kept in a cool place. I will always take a photo upon delivery and set up of wedding cakes to confirm it’s appearance upon leaving. If collecting or transporting a wedding cake yourself, I will issue a guide to transporting your cake safely and ask for a signature upon receipt (it is at the buyer's risk to ignore this guide.) If renting a cake/cupcake stand, this must be returned in good condition within two weeks of the wedding/celebration date. If returned outside of this time, or if returned broken, damaged or with missing parts, the refundable deposit may be kept in order to purchase a new stand.
Covid-19 update for weddings:
Cancellations and postponements:
The majority of my bookings from 2020 have been postponed and carried over to 2021. In the case of further national lockdown falling on the date of your wedding (where weddings are not allowed) you will be offered the option of a full refund of your deposit in the case of cancellation, or to postpone again to an agreed upon date in the future.
If you cancel for any other reason but do not rebook (or if the original wedding date could have gone ahead, albeit on a smaller scale) your deposit will be retained as normal (this includes if you postpone your wedding and I am not available for the new date, as it still counts as a cancellation if the wedding could otherwise have gone ahead.)
If you have booked, or postponed, your wedding for 2021 and are looking to postpone to 2022, 50% of the remaining payment due would be required by the original (or postponed) 2021 date. The remaining 50% would then be due 2 weeks before the new wedding date. The only exception to this would be in the event of another full national lockdown or local lockdown to the Isle of Wight where the wedding could not take place. In this instance, the wedding can be postponed again to a future date with no extra payment necessary.
If you are hoping to book a 'back up' date in the future while still keeping your current booking, a further £50 non refundable deposit would be required as it becomes a new booking.
If postponing, you have until 4 weeks prior to your current booked wedding date to do so and carry your deposit over. If the wedding is postponed within 4 weeks of the current booked wedding date, you will lose your deposit and have to pay another deposit to book back in.
Changes to the sizes of a wedding cake:
If new restrictions mean you no longer need a cake as large as the one you have booked, you will be given the option of changing to a smaller size. Depending on the deposit paid, a payment may still be required 2 weeks before the wedding date. If the cake value is equal to the deposit paid then no extra payment will be required. Alternatively, if the cake required now has a lower value that the deposit paid, you will be given the option to carry the remaining amount over to another cake in the future ie a birthday cake. Unfortunately deposits cannot be returned due to downsizing cakes.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you wish to change the size of your wedding cake or postpone your wedding, as I will always try my best to accommodate my customers where I can.
